In the valley of Osława River, on the border of Lower Beskid and Western Bieszczady extends Zagórz – capital of more than 13 – thousand residents municipality with a colourful history and rich development potential. Zagórz is often called hospitable Gate of Bieszczady. In Zagórz we have cross routes leading to Ukraine and Slovakia. From Zagórz train station Fr. Karol Wojtyła – later Pope John Paul II – started his journeys in Bieszczady and this fact is placed on the obelisk next to train station in Zagórz.
Numerous monuments of the religious architecture represent the richness of the cultural community with the ruins of the monastery of the Discalced Carmelites from eighteen century on the first place. Its history reflects the turbulent acts of the end of I Republic of Poland. In the year 2000 the ruins were taken over by the municipality of Zagórz and from that time the authorities of Zagórz trying to secure the monument which is unusual building not only in Podkarpacie. Another great monument in Zagórz is the Parish Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary build in the second half of the 18 – teen century. In this Church there is the miraculous painting of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. A notable landmark is the Orthodox church dedicated to meeting the Lord in Morochow from 1837. Valuable historical elements of the past generations are the necropolis with interesting burial chapels (such as the chapel of Gubrynowicz family in the old cemetery from the 19 – teen century), the mass graves of soldiers and also obelisk in memory of the execution of Jews in Zasław.
A characteristic element of the landscape of Zagórz is the group of ski jumps called “Zakucie”. Those ski jumps are the only one in Podkarpacie objects full covered with PVC material which allows to year – round training for many followers of Adam Małysz.
Sub Special Economic Zone “Euro Park Mielec” is located in industrial area of Zagórz – Zasław. Potential investors have many opportunities to do business on preferential terms in this zone.
Fishing enthusiasts will satisfy the local fishing grounds abound in many species of fish such as trout, grayling, barbel and Danube. The increasing number of supporters of Danube meets since 2011 in the second decade of June in the prestigious competition “Bieszczady Danube Cup”.
The municipality Zagórz hosting habitats of animals such as wild boar, roe deer, deer, hare, which creates favourable conditions for development of hunting tourism. In this context, it is not surprising the growing popularity of “Galician rut” – the annual festival of hunting brothers.
The peculiarity of the Zagórz community is its multiculturalism, signs of which include Annual Cultural Festival on Osława in Mokre. Equestrian centre “The Valley of Horses” in Łukowe becomes a modern centre of intercultural dialogue. Its owners with financial support from European funds realized on a national scale innovative project called “Historical and ecumenical resources of Cossack land as a background for innovation in the tourist village Łukowe – Chutor Kozacki in the Valley of Horses”.
